Crumpled wrapper from a pack of crackers…3 partially drunk bottles of water…20+ goldfish scattered across the floorboard in various states of crumbs…
Just a sprinkling of the various things covering my car the other night.
And I embarrasingly admit I ate a few of those goldfish and it made me think about what moms eat…every day…any average mom of young kids.
It isn’t pretty…it certainly isn’t complete…or on any kind of approved diet I’ve ever read about.
I’m pretty sure my daily diet has never graced the cover of Family Circle or Good Housekeeping.
I’ve eaten slobbery chicken nuggets my kids decided were too hot simply out of lack of a trashcan nearby.
I’ve slurped up the last few sips of a milkshake that I’m certain was mainly backwash.
I’ve snuck bites of boxed mac n cheese I know I shouldn’t eat but that remind me of my childhood.
And as embarrassing as all of this is, I’m writing it for the world to see because I know I AM NOT ALONE!
Moms all over the world are doing the same things I am…day in, day out. Women who are seemingly put together…women who talk about calories and working out…women who probably never imagined they would make it to dinner time and realize their only calorie intake for the day was part of a Happy Meal.
If you had told my 20 year old self that one day I would be eating scraps of food here and there or that I would on some days, actually forget to eat meals, I would have thought you were crazy!
How could you forget to eat?! But that’s what happens when you’re a mom.
Unfortunately, sometimes the last person you remember in the day is you. Between the diapers, the potty training, the snotty noses, the homework, the doctor’s appointments…if you are managing to eat at all, you are doing ok!
We are normal! We are making it…one day at a time, one half eaten chicken nugget at a time…
And all we really need to do is make it to 8 pm =)
