I am not a huge fan of party favors for a child’s birthday but this project is absolutely the best DIY birthday party favor I have ever seen! We have been using this bag of books for over 3 years now!
Ok let me first say that over the years I have had a Love-Hate relationship with the idea of birthday party favors while hosting my kids’ parties. On the one hand, I think it’s fun to come up with something useful and cute to send home with all of your child’s friends. On the other, I dislike the pressure from what I feel has come to be almost expected these days and I even more dislike spending money on junk just to fill up a treat bag!
But in the past 7 years, I personally have run the gamut. There was the year I filled baggies with candy, erasers and general junk from the Dollar Store. Then there was our party at the park where the take home was a Disney water bottle at $1.99. All the kids loved them and even better, they were practical and useful!
And in the past 7 years, I have seen some amazing take homes from my childrens’ friends parties. Like really useful, practical items that still weren’t a lot of money!
This super cute “BookWorm Bag” is definitely one of my all-time favorites!

So it’s been almost 4 years now since Hannah went to her preschool friend’s birthday party but we have treasured this amazing bag her mom Jessica made ever since!
What I love is it’s simplicity and practicality! Plus if you had a slightly older group of kids, the kids could do a lot of the craft as part of the party! I would have their names already on the bag and the kids could glue the PomPoms down!
To make this take-home even more special?! My thoughtful friend Jessica stuffed each bag with an adorable book!
My girls now use this bag when we go to the library or just to haul books from upstairs to the downstairs!
No birthday parties coming up? No big deal! Your kids would love to make this just you and them!
