My little girls started going through a terrible phase of having bad dreams until I did this one simple trick to stop bad dreams now! Try it tonight and help your kiddos rest easy!
Neither of my girls experienced nightmares until they turned 3 or 4.
But boy when it started, it was a rough period for everyone in the house!
My older daughter would sometimes wake crying and remember her dreams but often she would cry during her sleep and when she finally woke in the morning, she was so bothered and unrested it would impact her entire day. She also would then have a hard time going to sleep the next night for fear of having more bad dreams.
My younger daughter simply woke up hysterical and would run down the hall to my bedroom. Thus began a long night of trying to calm her and explain that she HAD to go back to sleep.
We have all had bad dreams and know how frightening they can be, despite their implausibility.
And what constitutes a “bad” dream is very unique to each child. For one, it could be not being ready for a test at school. For another, it could be a monster under their bed. And for another, it could be the loss of a family member. And so on and so on…
I felt awful for my girls but also felt helpless.
It wasn’t like I could get into their minds during sleep…or could I?
That’s when it dawned on me – I CAN influence their thoughts as they close their eyes!
We have all heard of subliminal marketing and even those crazy notions of learning a second language by listening to a tape while you sleep!
Well I don’t know if those are true but the premise is!
HERE IS WHAT I STARTED DOING TO STOP THE BAD DREAMS
Each night at bedtime, after we read a book, sing our songs and say our prayers, just as I am tucking my girls in for the night, I lean down and kiss their cheek and whisper in their ear WHAT TO DREAM!
Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? But I swear it works every night.
Some nights I just say “Dream about Disney and the princesses.” Some nights I mention something exciting they have coming up like “Dream about your sleepover at Gigi’s!”.
And some nights I tell them to dream about something fun we did that day like “Dream about your fun walk with Mamu and Poppy.”
But what it does is reset their internal thoughts and lets their frame of mind be one of happiness and joy just as they drift off to dreamland.
Since I have been using this trick, we haven’t had any more bad dreams.
I hope this works just as well for all of you!
