Day 28 Quit Trying To Be That Other Mom

So you’re reading this blog series to BE a better mom right?  Well, for starters, you need to quit trying to be that other mom.  You know, the perfect mom you think you know.

We all know the perfect mom.  I mean, don’t we??!

The one whose hair is always perfect and outfit always matches.

The one whose kids are always perfectly behaved with yes M’am and No M’ams.

The one who cooks home cooked meals every.single.night.

The one whose husband always seems happy with his wife and they NEVER argue.

The one who isn’t a single pound overweight, much less 10 pounds.

The one who never yells at her kids or loses her patience.

Day 28 Quit Trying To Be That Other Mom

Well let me tell you something, my friend.  She doesn’t exist!  At least not outside of your imagination….and mine.  She’s not real.  And there’s good reason for that…it would be impossible to be all those things at any given moment.

No one expects that of you.  Not your children.  Not your husband.  Not God.

So neither should you.

Life is not perfect.  Your kids aren’t perfect.  And don’t even get me started that your husband isn’t perfect.

So why are you trying SO HARD to be perfect?

Because while you are trying to attain the unattainable, you are missing being in the moment.  Enjoying that piece of cake without guilt.  Laughing so hard with your kids that drink comes out of your nose.  Going out with friends.  Enjoying that movie with your husband even while the house is a semi-disaster.

We all have our strengths but we also all have our demons.  Some are better at hiding it than others.  Don’t ever forget that.  Because what you see on the surface is not at all indicative of what really lies beneath.

Even in my worst moments, people will usually see me with a smile on my face or a joke to crack.  That does not mean I am always happy or that I am not worried.  It just means I’ve found a way to cover it up to the outside world.

So today as you go out and about your business, quit trying to be someone else.  Or think if only you had that house, that body, those kids, that patience you would really be a better mom.

Because you are already a great mom.  And if you were anyone else, you might just lose some of that awesome sauce.

And if I were a bettin’ woman, I would bet that there’s another mom out there watching YOU.  Wishing she could be just a little more like you.  Wishing her kids were a little more like yours.  Wishing she had that thing you have.

So be you.  Be the good mom that everyone else already knows you are.  And quit trying to be someone else.  Because you are loved and have so much love to give, just being you.
